The git branch<\/code> command allows you to create, list, rename, and delete branches. A branch is an independent line of development in your Git repository, which makes it easy to work on different features or fixes simultaneously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

-i, --ignore-case<\/code><\/td>Make sorting and filtering of branches case insensitive.<\/td><\/tr>
--omit-empty<\/code><\/td>Do not print a newline after formatted refs if the format expands to an empty string.<\/td><\/tr>
--column[=<options>], --no-column<\/code><\/td>Display branch listing in columns, based on configuration variable column.branch.<\/td><\/tr>
-r, --remotes<\/code><\/td>List or delete remote-tracking branches.<\/td><\/tr>

--show-current<\/code><\/td>Print the name of the current branch. Nothing is printed in detached HEAD state.<\/td><\/tr>

-q, --quiet<\/code><\/td>Suppress non-error messages when creating or deleting a branch.<\/td><\/tr>

<branchname><\/code><\/td>The name of the branch to create, delete, move, or copy.<\/td><\/tr>
<start-point><\/code><\/td>The commit that the new branch head will point to. Defaults to the current HEAD if omitted.<\/td><\/tr>
<oldbranch><\/code><\/td>The name of an existing branch to delete or rename. Defaults to the current branch if omitted.<\/td><\/tr>
<newbranch><\/code><\/td>The new name for an existing branch.<\/td><\/tr>
--sort=<key><\/code><\/td>Sort branches based on the specified key.<\/td><\/tr>

This will show all branches and highlight the current branch with an asterisk (*):<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Creating a New Branch<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
To create a new branch named feature-branch<\/code>, use:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This creates a new branch, but does not switch to it. To switch to the new branch, use:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
git checkout feature-branch<\/pre><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Or, you can create and switch to the new branch in one step:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
git checkout -b feature-branch<\/pre><\/div>\n\n\n\n
