The git status<\/code> command displays the state of the working directory and the staging area. It shows you which changes have been staged, which have not, and which files are not being tracked by Git.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

-s, --short<\/code><\/td>Display the output in a short format.<\/td><\/tr>
-b, --branch<\/code><\/td>Show branch and tracking information even in short format.<\/td><\/tr>
--show-stash<\/code><\/td>Display the number of stashed entries.<\/td><\/tr>
--porcelain[=<version>]<\/code><\/td>Provide output in a stable format suitable for scripts. Defaults to version v1.<\/td><\/tr>
--long<\/code><\/td>Display the output in the long format (default).<\/td><\/tr>
-v, --verbose<\/code><\/td>Show detailed changes staged for commit.<\/td><\/tr>
-u[<mode>], --untracked-files[=<mode>]<\/code><\/td>Show untracked files. Modes: no<\/code>, normal<\/code>, all<\/code>.<\/td><\/tr>
--ignore-submodules[=<when>]<\/code><\/td>Ignore changes to submodules. Options: none<\/code>, untracked<\/code>, dirty<\/code>, all<\/code> (default).<\/td><\/tr>
--ignored[=<mode>]<\/code><\/td>Show ignored files. Modes: traditional<\/code>, no<\/code>, matching<\/code>.<\/td><\/tr>
-z<\/code><\/td>Terminate entries with a NUL character instead of LF.<\/td><\/tr>
--column[=<options>], --no-column<\/code><\/td>Display untracked files in columns. Options: always<\/code>, never<\/code>.<\/td><\/tr>
--ahead-behind, --no-ahead-behind<\/code><\/td>Show or hide detailed ahead\/behind counts for the branch relative to its upstream branch.<\/td><\/tr>
--renames, --no-renames<\/code><\/td>Turn rename detection on or off, regardless of user configuration.<\/td><\/tr>
--find-renames[=<n>]<\/code><\/td>Enable rename detection with an optional similarity threshold.<\/td><\/tr>
<pathspec>...<\/code><\/td>Limit status output to paths matching the specified pathspec.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Running the command will display information about changes to be committed, changes not staged for commit, and untracked files:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
